Our safety practices

Systems Connect is built around a few non-negotiable safety practices. Here’s what we do, in plain language, so you know what to expect before you join.

Privacy by default

• Real names are never collected, displayed, or shared. You pick a chosen name; what we encrypt internally is encrypted with a key that lives off the database.
• Location is jittered before storage. Your coordinates are randomized 1.5–5 miles before they ever touch the database, so even our backups don’t hold your exact address.
• IP addresses are HMAC-hashed before logging. We can rate-limit and detect abuse without storing where you connect from.
• Account export and soft-delete with a 30-day grace are always available from your account.

Trauma-informed pacing

• Take a break. A button in the top nav blurs the site for you for 15 minutes, an hour, or a day. The blur is per front — if Avery is overwhelmed, Quinn can still come on.
• Trigger-warning blur. Authors tag posts with trigger warnings. If you carry that warning in your profile, the post is wrapped in a “tap to read” blur. You choose what to carry; you choose when to read.
• Soft 988 banner. When crisis vocabulary appears in a forum post or DM, a quiet 988 / Crisis Text Line / SAMHSA banner shows above it — visible to author and reader, no escalation, no scoring, no “a moderator is reviewing.” Just the resource.
• No infinite scroll. Pages are paginated. You always know where you are.
• Reduced motion respected. Honors your OS setting and the per-member “always reduce motion” pref.

Plurality affirmation

• Each named front in your system has their own profile, their own pronouns, their own visibility setting, their own feed, their own creative work, their own pause. They are treated as separate people in the community, because that’s how plurality is lived.
• Posts and reactions carry the front who made them, not the underlying account. The site never says “the system did X.”
• Each part can edit only their own profile content (when they’re the active front). Honor system, not lock; gentle, not strict.

Connection without comparison

• No follower counts. No streaks. No daily-login rewards. No profile-view tracking. No leaderboards.
• Reactions are warm verbs (I see you, me too, support, helpful, thanks, you taught me). One per reader per item, toggle to swap. The point is to be heard, not to win.
• Engagement is the trust signal, not raw post count. Replying inside a conversation is unrestricted; standalone monologue posts use a small approval credit until you’re a long-time member.

Member control

• Block and mute carry across your whole system. If you block someone, every front of theirs is invisible, and every front of yours is invisible to them.
• Friends-only and system-private fronts let you choose who can see which version of you.
• Customizable language. Pick the word your system uses for your multiplicity (alters / parts / people / headmates / system mates / your own term). Pick the word for your partner (partner / spouse / beloved / your own).
• Daily journal is private by default. Pin to publish a single entry to your profile if you want others to see it. Nothing else leaks.
• DM accept-from is friends-only by default. You choose who can start a private conversation.

Clear boundaries

• This is a peer community, not a clinical service. Nothing here is therapy, medical advice, or assessment. Crisis routing always goes to 988, Crisis Text Line, SAMHSA, or 911 — visible in the footer of every page.
• Staff are community members trained from peer-support curriculum, not clinicians. We don’t have clinician members; we don’t supervise treatment.
• Video sessions may be recorded for community use. A banner saying so appears on every video page; joining is consent. Don’t want recording? Don’t join.

This page is the canonical version. The popup that appears on the homepage shows the same content; you can dismiss it once you’ve read it.
